Embellishment in quilting and patchwork
If you think patchwork is only about fabric and thread, I encourage you to play with other materials to unleash your creativity! Why not try beads, ribbons, or sequins, for example?
In my most recent projects, I've been having fun playing with even more contrasting colors, using metallic threads, and adding playful little details.
Of course, for a utilitarian quilt, which will be washed often, you'd need to choose more durable materials. But for a decorative quilt, it's the perfect opportunity to experiment!
Here are some examples with my Sunbonnet Sue series where I've incorporated sequins, ribbons, beads, metallic thread, as well as more playful finishing touches.
I've already shown you the two projects where I added fringe to the edges. It's a lovely way to finish a decorative quilt!

I haven't yet incorporated mirrors into a quilt, but I'm considering it! I added rhinestones to this horse, so why not mirrors next time?!
