Picking Up a Neglected Project
How do you pick up a project you've abandoned?
Who hasn't been there? You might have cut out all the pieces, maybe even assembled some of them. Then, for various reasons, you put the project aside for several months, or even longer, and when the time comes to take it out again, you're completely lost!
« Reclaim ownership of the project »
It's so easy to abandon the project again at this stage, and sometimes it's a necessary choice! No worries!
However, if you have some time to dedicate to the project and really want to make progress, here are a few tips:
Reclaim ownership of the project
Accept that you'll need the time to reacquaint yourself with the project and organize your supplies; also accept that this part might take longer than you'd hoped, but it's essential.
2.Take it easy
The word "accept" is key, because if you can approach the "familiarization" stage calmly, without criticizing yourself for your lack of organization or anything else, the rest will go more smoothly!
You can see this stage as a discovery: "Ah yes, I did that, okay, I understand better now!
3.Remember your "why"
Remember why you want to complete the project. Take a moment to imagine the finished project and what comes from it. Perhaps the project is a gift for a friend? Imagine their joy when they hold it in their hands!
Even if your goal is simply to reduce your list of ongoing projects, you can imagine the relief and satisfaction you'll feel once it's finished!
4.Set a specific goal
In this first tidying and/or sewing session, after getting reacquainted with your project, set a single task, for example, finishing cutting the fabric for your patchwork block.
5. Set a time limit
Decide from the outset that you will dedicate one hour to this project today, for example. Having a goal provides structure to the activity and can reduce stress. And if you only have 20 minutes, not an hour, that's perfectly fine too: decide based on your schedule!
After this initial period of reacquainting yourself with the project, it will be easier to approach it calmly from now on. These are tips I use regularly because I prefer to work on several projects simultaneously, and sometimes I completely lose track! We all have limits in terms of our time, energy, motivation, etc., and I think a little reminder from time to time, that dedicating even just fifteen minutes to a project is already something.
